Ghana suffers a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico in a World Cup warm-up friendly at Estadio Cuauhtémoc ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which begins next month.
Goals from Brian Gutiérrez and Guillermo Martínez in either half sealed a deserved win for Mexico, who looked the better side throughout the contest.
Brian Gutierrez gave his side an early lead after a blunder from the Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, following a misjudged pass.
From there, Mexico controlled much of the first half, with several opportunities to extend their lead, however, Asare made some reflex saves to deny them.
The first half ended with the score at 1-0 in a game played at 2:00AM Ghana time.
After the break, the Black Stars looked for an equalizer and responded well, but they were denied twice by the posts from efforts by Sakyi.
Mexico sealed the match in the 54th minute when Guillermo Martínez Ayala scored the second goal, securing the victory. The game finished 2-0.
Ghana will now focus on its final warm-up match against Wales on June 2, nine days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins.
