The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) has welcomed the launch of Ghana’s new e-visa platform, describing it as a major boost for tourism competitiveness and accessibility.
In a statement issued by TOUGHA, the fully digital visa application process launched by the government under President John Dramani Mahama will ease travel planning for tourists, business travelers, conference delegates and members of the African diaspora.
“This landmark initiative represents a major step forward in positioning Ghana as one of Africa’s most accessible and visitor-friendly destinations,” the statement said.
TOUGHA noted that cumbersome visa procedures often discourage travel decisions.
The union said the new e-visa system will remove barriers by simplifying applications, reducing waiting times, and improving the overall visitor experience before travellers arrive in Ghana.
The union particularly applauded the government’s decision to waive visa fees for African passport holders.
TOUGHA called it a “bold Pan-African move” that aligns with African integration, intra-African trade, and cultural exchange while reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of Pan-Africanism.
TOUGHA also commended the collaborative approach adopted during the development of the platform.
The union acknowledged the contributions of its members Kwaku Passah Sr, Fuseini Nawaru, and Michael Orleans, who served on the private sector consultative team.
“Their involvement reflects the critical role of public-private partnership in shaping policies that support tourism growth, investment promotion, and national development,” said TOUGHA President Yvonne Donkor, who signed the statement.
The union said it expects the e-visa system to increase visitor arrivals, boost destination confidence, and improve Ghana’s attractiveness in the global travel market.
TOUGHA pledged to continue working with government and stakeholders to promote Ghana as the preferred destination for leisure, heritage, culture, business and MICE tourism in Africa.
