The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commenced the relocation of troops from El-Wak Barracks to the newly constructed Butler Barracks in Burma Camp.

The relocation, which began on Friday, June 5, 2026, is part of efforts to improve accommodation facilities for troops in the GAF.

According to the Force, the exercise involved the movement of personnel, military vehicles, equipment, and logistics support assets under strict security arrangements.

Personnel of the Military Police were deployed to ensure a smooth and orderly transition throughout the operation.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chief of Staff (COS) of the GAF, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, stated that the relocation forms part of the Armed Forces’ long-term strategic plan aimed at strengthening force deployment, improving accommodation for troops and enhancing the overall operational capabilities of the Service.

“The relocation commenced after days of intense sensitization of troops concerned,” he stated.

The Air Vice Marshal indicated that the exercise is expected to be completed by the end of the month, after which work will commence on a new barracks development project at El-Wak.
