The Ghana Black Stars’ new culturally inspired home jersey has been ranked as the best outfit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The white PUMA kit has a sublime spider web on the chest, inspired by Ananse folklore, and blends culture as well as design around the Black Star.
Having gained massive public appeal, the team has donned it once in the friendly match played in March against Austria.
Ahead of the Mundial scheduled for June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, the latest poll conducted by ‘The Athletic’ ranked the Kente-inspired jersey as number one among the 48 countries.
“Wow. In general, I’m not wild about Puma’s designs this year because they don’t seem massively interesting, but that’s absolutely not an accusation you can level against this one. It looks like a gigantic, multi-coloured spider’s web, because that’s exactly what it is.
“The design is inspired by kente, a traditional Ghanaian hand-woven textile, which apparently originated from weavers trying to replicate the patterns of a spider called Anansi from their ancient folklore,” the poll described Ghana’s jersey as quoted by the New York Times.
Overwhelmed with the outfit, the poll urged football-loving fans to purchase one for the long-month period competition.
“Even if you don’t buy any of that… well, just look at it.”
Brazil, England, Germany, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Australia, Belgium, and Cape Verde complete the top 10.
World champions Argentina have their home kit ranked 13th, France 15th, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in 21st position.
Ghana’s group opponent, Croatia, had their famous red-and-white chequered pattern outfit ranked the worst among the 48 countries.
The ranking was based on “catalogue of football shirts for eyeballs to feast upon over the course of 37 days.”
The poll forms part of ‘The Athletic’ “Style of Play” series, an exploration of World Cup kit culture.
