E/R: Okere NDC launches football league to fight HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, win 2028 seat

The Okere Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a football festival dubbed the Okere Unity Football Community League at Twum-Guaso.

The initiative is aimed at eradicating HIV/AIDS and drug abuse among the youth, while also mobilizing support to win back the Okere parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections. The NDC has not held the seat for the past 20 years.

Speaking at the launch, Gabriel Ahorlu, former Assembly Member for Twum-Guaso Electoral Area and Committee Chairman for the Okere Community League, said the league will use sports as a tool to engage the youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and educate communities on HIV/AIDS prevention and the dangers of drug abuse.

According to him, the league will also serve as a platform to reconnect with constituents and project the NDC’s vision for recapturing the parliamentary seat in 2028.

Osagyefo Osei Lartey, Odikro of Nkyenoa and Chairman of Okere Adikrofo, who chaired the launch, urged all young people in the constituency to refrain from unprotected sex and drug abuse in order to secure a better future.

Also speaking at the event, Nana Otu-Darko, a media practitioner with Accra FM and a National Deputy Communications Officer hopeful, applauded the Okere NDC for the initiative.

He described it as a timely intervention to address youth challenges while strengthening party structures in the constituency.

The launch attracted party executives, traditional leaders, youth groups and residents from communities across Okere.
