The police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the murder of the University of Cape Coast student Innocentia Atsufui Avinu.

The suspect, identified as Michael Mensah, was apprehended on Sunday, June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:15 pm. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast.

The arrest was made by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following what police described as sustained intelligence-led operations.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that on June 11, 2026, at about 6:48 p.m., the suspect picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza, located within the UCC hostel enclave.

He then took her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen. Police say Mensah claims to be a teacher by profession but also works as a driver.

The Ghana Police Service stated that investigations are still ongoing and promised to communicate any further developments to the public.

Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
