AMA stops construction works at North Kaneshie over building permit verification

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has issued a stop-work order on an ongoing construction project being undertaken by some Chinese contractors at FD 28 Amadan Street, North Kaneshie, demanding that they produce the necessary building permit and official receipts covering the development.

The directive was issued during a working visit led by the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, to parts of the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District to inspect building permits, sanitation conditions, and compliance with Assembly regulations.

The Mayor said the Assembly would not allow any developer, contractor, or company to undertake construction within the metropolis without the required approval from the AMA.

He warned that all ongoing construction and demolition works without proper documentation would be halted until the necessary permits and receipts were produced for verification.

The Mayor warned that developers who failed to comply with the Assembly’s planning requirements would face sanctions, including stop-work orders, fines, prosecution and possible demolition of unauthorised structures.

As part of the exercise, the AMA also conducted verification of building permits and official receipts at selected construction sites to ensure that developers had met all statutory requirements before commencing work.

The Mayor directed contractors working on the Melcom Plus building to halt the renovation works for undertaking additional works beyond the scope of the approved renovation permit.
