The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have shut down power supply from the Mallam and Achimota primary substations after heavy rains caused severe flooding at the facilities.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, June 29, 2026, GRIDCo and ECG said the flooding has affected critical electricity infrastructure in parts of Greater Accra, posing risks to both equipment and operational staff.

The utilities explained that the shutdown is a precautionary measure in the interest of public safety.

They added that switching off power is to safeguard lives, protect property, and prevent damage to the network until it is safe to restore supply.

GRIDCo and ECG said they are continuously monitoring the situation and assessing the impact of the flooding on the transmission and distribution network.

The public has been advised that power supply may be temporarily interrupted in other affected areas if safety risks are identified, as the heavy rains persist.

The two companies are also urging residents to exercise extreme caution and to report any fallen electricity poles, exposed or fallen power lines, and flooded electrical installations to the nearest ECG office or through ECG’s customer service channels.

They said prompt reporting will support rapid response efforts and help ensure public safety.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience, cooperation, and understanding of all affected customers.

“Every effort will be made to restore power supply as soon as weather conditions improve and it is safe to do so,” the statement added.
