Accra Mayor launches WhatsApp line for waste reporting and free refuse collection

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has launched a dedicated WhatsApp line to enable residents to report accumulated waste and sanitation offences for prompt action by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly
(AMA).

The new number, 054 491 4628, will allow residents to report refuse build-up in their communities for evacuation, and also flag sanitation offences for enforcement and prosecution.

Allotey announced the initiative on Monday, June 29 during a visit to four flood-affected communities in the metropolis.

The communities were Avenor, Circle, North Kaneshie and Bubuashie, where he donated cash, food items and sanitation tools, and assessed the impact of recent rains and sanitation conditions.

Speaking during the visit, the Mayor said the Assembly had observed large volumes of rubbish in the affected areas, prompting the deployment of sanitation tools and waste collection trucks to support clean-up efforts.

He added that AMA has dedicated the entire month to free refuse collection across Accra, meaning residents will not be charged for waste evacuation during the period.

Assembly officers have also been stationed in the affected communities to coordinate clean-up activities and alert compactors when waste is gathered at designated points.
