Direct Meridian Company Limited (DMC Ghana Farms) producers of Sena Rice have urged Ghanaians to shift their preference toward locally produced rice to help grow the country’s rice industry.
The company’s director, Nana Akua Avle, said the biggest challenge facing local rice producers is consumer mindset.
According to her, many Ghanaians still favour imported foreign rice, making it difficult to convince the market that Ghana can produce rice of equal or better quality.
To change that perception, DMC Ghana Farms has established an ultra-modern rice mill from the United States to process Sena Rice to international standards.
The company said Sena Rice is well processed, completely stone-free, and packaged in transparent bags so consumers can see the quality for themselves.

“We brought Sena Rice to the market because Ghanaians are patronizing foreign imported rice. Sena Rice meets the same standard as the foreign imported rice. It has no stones and all those things,” Nana Akua stated .
She added: “Everybody is in love with the foreign imported rice, and so it’s difficult to convince them that what they’re importing is what we’re doing here in Ghana.”
Nana Akua also called on other local rice producers to bring their paddy to DMC’s mill for processing.
“This is why we’re calling on all local producers to bring their rice so that we mill it so well for them to meet international standards,” she said.
