The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
It disclosed that he is being investigated for his alleged involvement in GH¢55 million financial and procurement-related irregularities as former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
Confirming the arrest, the Office said Mr. Aboagye was arrested together with the former accountant of the Secretariat, Gerald Appiah.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, EOCO said the investigation was initiated after a petition submitted by Mr. Aboagye’s successor following a forensic audit covering the period from August 1, 2022 to February 2, 2025.
It stated that the probe focuses on suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds at the IMCCoD Secretariat.
According to EOCO, Mr. Aboagye and Mr. Appiah and other persons are under investigation for suspected offences including conspiracy to steal and stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.
The Commission added that Mr. Aboagye had knowledge about the ongoing investigations and had already honoured invitations to assist with the processes.
“Following new findings last week, the Office placed him on a Stop Order to prevent him from leaving the country. Unaware of this, he had already departed.
“Upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport on Saturday night, Immigration officials executed the Stop Order and handed him over to EOCO on Sunday morning. He has since assisted investigators in searches expected to continue today,” the statement said.
EOCO indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications member would be granted bail in accordance with the constitution and law of the country.
