The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged its members to remain calm, united, disciplined and steadfast following the sentencing of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
According to the party, members must preserve the unity, discipline and values of the NPP during the challenging period.
The NPP’s call stems from the leadership’s ongoing emergency meeting over the jail sentence handed to Chairman Wontumi after he was convicted in connection with the Samreboi mining matter.
In a statement announcing the emergency meeting, the party entreated its members to rally behind the leadership as it reviews the court’s judgment and determines the next course of action.
“I respectfully urge all members of our great Party to rally behind the leadership during this challenging moment.
“Let us remain calm, united, disciplined, and steadfast in our commitment to the values and interests of the New Patriotic Party,” says the statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
According to the NPP, it will formally communicate its next line of action after the meeting.
The meeting involves the party’s leadership, Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s legal team.
