Ghanaian musician, Maddy Maznaz, has accused dancehall star Stonebwoy of using her song concept without her permission, claiming the incident left her deeply hurt and shattered her trust in fellow artistes.
Speaking in a recent interview, Maddy alleged that she once shared an unreleased song titled ‘Work’ with Stonebwoy in the hope of securing a collaboration.
However, she claims the award-winning musician later recorded a song with the same title and concept, featuring Jamaican artiste Spice instead.
“There was a time I sent a song to Stonebwoy and Stonebwoy copied the song, Work, and featured Jamaican artiste Spice. Because he knows I’m not as big as him. Instead of featuring a Ghanaian artiste, he featured a Jamaican artiste,” she alleged.
According to Maddy, the experience was particularly painful because she had previously styled Stonebwoy for free as a fashion stylist and believed they had built enough trust to work together musically.
“I’m hurt till now because I did free fashion styling for him, so I trusted him to have a collaboration with him. After that, I couldn’t do a collaboration with him again,” she said.
The singer revealed that she publicly expressed her frustration on X (formerly Twitter), saying she cried over the incident and felt betrayed by someone she admired.
“I ranted on Twitter. I cried because then I realized I can’t trust any artiste in Ghana irrespective of our relationship,” she stated.
Maddy further disclosed that before sending the song to Stonebwoy, she had first shared it with Ghanaian music veteran Reggie Rockstone, who allegedly encouraged her to approach the dancehall star for a feature.
“Initially I sent it to Reggie Rockstone, and he recommended I feature with Stonebwoy because he’d be the best artiste to feature on it,” she explained.
She also claimed that despite Stonebwoy’s collaboration with Spice, the song failed to achieve significant success.
“And even after he did the song with the Jamaican artiste, the song didn’t go anywhere,” she added.
Stonebwoy has not publicly responded to Maddy Maznaz’s allegations at the time of publication.
