The Tema Regional Police Command has issued a stern warning against actions that could trigger violence or disrupt public order as preparations for this year’s Homowo Festival gather momentum.
The Command noted that previous celebrations had been marred by clashes and confrontations over disputes regarding who has the authority to sprinkle “Kpoikpoi,” a traditional festive meal, resulting in injuries and breaches of the peace.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Tema, the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, stated that traditional rulers, priests, and priestesses should take this warning with the highest consideration.
He further directed that all chieftaincy disputes be resolved through the appropriate legal and traditional processes rather than through acts of confrontation during the festival.
He assured the public of the Police Service’s readiness and commitment to ensure a peaceful celebration across the Tema Metropolis with comprehensive security measures.
DCOP Asamoah Asiedu cautioned that anyone who engages in criminal activities under the guise of celebration will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
