The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, insists that the capital city, Accra, is 85% clean.

Cecilia Dapaah explained that her outfit together with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the police and Zoomlion undertook a clean up exercise during the lockdown period to clean Accra and other capital towns.

She made this known in an interview with Kwadwo Dickson on Angel FM’s midday news on Friday.

“We took pictures of the capital city, Accra, and sent them abroad but people were wondering whether this was truly Accra until we confirmed”, she revealed.

The Sanitation Minister pointed out that a drive through some principal streets of Accra shows that heaps of sand that filled the roads have been cleared.

She cited the Kawukudi to Ministries road as evidence. The sanitation minister also said heaps of rubbish which previously littered the markets have been cleared as well.

She however admitted that sanitation began deteriorating when people returned to town after the lockdown was lifted. Maintenance and sustainability are key since issues pertaining to sanitation are all-encompassing.
