The four suspects, who were arrested in connection with the confusion and shooting incident at Kasoa during the voters’ registration exercise, have been granted bail by the Circuit Court in Cape Coast.

Lawyer for the suspects, Mr. Amposah Dadzie, prayed the court for bail after the suspects pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Dorinda Smith Arthur, granted the suspects bail at the sum of GH¢30,000 each with two sureties.

As part of the bail conditions, one of the sureties must be a government worker whose net salary should not be less than GH¢2,000, DSP Irene Oppong, Central Regional Police PRO stated.

DSP Irene Oppong, in an interview with Nyansapow Timothy, said that, all the four accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The suspects were picked up by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, at Top Hill Down voter registration centre, after three motorbikes were burnt, she said.

She added that the police charged the suspects with conspiracy to commit crime (that is causing unlawful damage to the three motorbikes) and discharge of a fire arm in a public place without authority.

According to her, the case has been adjourned to August 18, 2020, while the suspects are to report to the Kasoa police station every Tuesday till the case is ended.

Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police Command says it is yet to invite the Minister of Special Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, to aid with investigations into the cause of the shooting incident.

The minister has admitted that she fired the gunshots to scare off some marauding youth when she felt threatened by their activities in her constituency.
