Head of Public Relations for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, says the council has taken all precautionary measures to ensure that none of their papers leak this year as SHS students commence their examinations today.
This comes after some videos sighted on social media over the weekend alleged that some of WAEC’s papers have leaked particularly Integrated Science 1 & 2.
However, Madam Teye-Cudjoe speaking with Captain Smart on Angel FM’s ‘Anɔpa Bɔfo’ morning show, said that, “we have done everything within our power, we have put in all the necessary security measures” to make sure that none of the papers leak.
She explained that WAEC should not be blamed if papers leak at examination centres, after the council has done due diligence for the papers to reach the centres, due to a supervisor’s lack of vigilance.
She added that supervisors have been informed to desist from sending mobile phones to the centres because, at their [supervisors] blind side, someone can take advantage to take a snapshot.
Madam Teye-Cudjoe disclosed that there are a lot of challenges with the administration of the exams at the centres however, she believes there wouldn’t be any problem should supervisors obey the rules given them.
The council had earlier in a statement, debunked claims that some of its papers have leaked.
“A scrutiny of the images being shared on social media indicates once again, the activities of certain individuals mainly operators of rogue websites and WhatsApp groups aimed at leading candidates astray and discrediting the Council”, the council’s statement read.
She repeated that claims that papers have leaked should be disregarded. According to her, individuals engaged in the purported leaks are using it as an opportunity to make money off the candidates.
She also assured the public that WAEC would expose any official who is responsible for any leaks in their examinations. “As an organization our reputation is at stake, the integrity of our certificates is at stake therefore even if I am the one to cause anything [leaks], I don’t think the organization would shield me at all, ” she said.
