Seventeen (17) candidates of the Ngleshie Amanfrom Senior High School (SHS) could not sit for the Integrated Science Paper 1 & 2 of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This incident occurred on Monday, August 3, at the Ngleshie Amanfrom SHS examination centre which also serves as a centre for two other private schools – Adotey Otinto SHS and Darius SHS.

The Head of Ngleshie Amanfrom SHS, Clement Apatu, in an interview with Angel FM’s Odehye Kwaku Asiedu, mentioned that the total number of candidates expected to sit for the exams at the centre was 1,071.

However, Mr. Apatu disclosed that 17 candidates out of the 903 from Ngleshie Amanfrom did not turn up for the exams reducing the figure to 886. He couldn’t adduce reasons for the absence of the students during the Integrated Science 1 & 2 papers in the morning.

Nonetheless, both Adotey Otinto SHS and Darius SHS recorded full numbers -103 and 65- candidates respectively.

The headmaster advised students to be focused on completing their examinations successfully.

“They should remain calm, concentrate and remain focused and do what they have been taught by their teachers and they would do well”, he admonished.

Meanwhile, Angel News has learnt that three of the absentees are pregnant teenagers and others traveled to their villages but Mr. Clement Apatu says, he has not received any official reasons why these 17 candidates were absent.

The WASSCE which commenced on Monday, August 3, is expected to end on September 5, 2020.

Despite Nigeria’s pullout from the examinations this year, all four other West African countries including Ghana, are partaking in the ongoing exams.

Earlier reports had indicated that WAEC would organise an independent examination for Ghanaian candidates due to the outbreak of COVID -19.

In Ghana, 313,837 students are writing from across all the 16 regions in 796 examination centres.
