The police at James Town in the Greater Accra Region have arrested two persons in connection with the recent electoral violence between supporters of National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Odododiodio constituency.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Region Command, ASP Afia Tenge, who confirmed the arrest said the suspects- whose identities are yet to be known- are assisting the police with investigations.

“Regarding the Odododiodio violence, the James Town Police have arrested two persons to assist with investigations…,” she told the media in an interaction.

Supporters of the two leading political parties were on Sunday, October 25, 2020, seen in a video throwing bottles as well as hurling stones and insults at each other.

It is not clear what sparked the supporters of incumbent NDC MP, Nii Lante Vanderpuye and NPP’s Nii Lante Bannerman, to start violent exchanges.

The attacks have been condemned by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was on a campaign tour to the constituency on Tuesday.

“It is not about fighting. If you [politician] have to use violence to win, then you don’t have anything for the constituents.

“So, everyone who does that should be ignored and condemned. Elections are just a contest of ideas, and we don’t need violence to be able to do that.

“So, please, I beg of you, we don’t need violence in our country. We want peace. The world is watching Ghana in our upcoming polls and we should show them that we respect ourselves and understand democracy well,” the President said.
