Ghana and Rwanda have signed a general cooperation agreement that will lay the foundation for the establishment of a Permanent Joint Commission.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and her Rwandan counterpart, Dr. Vincent Biruta, signed the agreement for the respective countries in Accra on Monday November 2, 2020.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said the joint commission presents another opportunity for Ghana to work closely with Rwanda to consolidate the existing relations as well as explore further areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.

She urged business communities in Ghana and Rwanda to take advantage of the economic potentials in the two countries.

She also mentioned that with the exposure to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), new opportunities will be made available for both countries to expand trade relations.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, commending Dr. Vincent Biruta said “Your presence in Accra to commission the new chancery, in spite of COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates your commitment to elevate relations between our countries to a new level.”

She took called on both countries to collaborate as well as support the African Union and other regional groupings to respond decisively to the current threats to peace and security on the African continent.
