The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is informing the General public, particularly dwellers in the western part of Greater Accra, to store enough water for consumption ahead of a temporary cut in supply.
According to the GWCL in a statement issued by its Communications Officer, Stanley Martey, on September 6, 2021 the temporary shutdown will occur in the coming week, spanning from Monday, September 13 to the 17th of same month.
The interruption is as a result of some engineering works that are needed to be done to improve upon their services to the consumers.
“GWCL Engineers will be replacing some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipe lines, which impedes water flow and causes serious challenges in the distribution lines”, the statement partly read.
In addition to the problem mentioned, there is also the issue of leakage in the supply area, which according to Mr. Stanley Martey, is “causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily,” hence the need for fixing.
“GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install some electromagnetic meters at the Weija Treatment Plant which will help in the company’s drive to reduce Non-Revenue Water”, the statement added.
The areas to experience the interruption include: Weija, Gbawe, Bortianor, Kokrobite, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor and Dansoman.
Others are: Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie and Awudome Estates.
The rest are: North Kaneshie, Abeka La Paz, Kwashieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.
While assuring the public of its utmost best to work within stipulated period, the management noted that measures have been put in place to ease the challenge the affected communities may face.
Below are the measures including an advise:
• Water reservoirs will be filled with water tankers to enable consumers fetch.
• Essential service providers like the hospitals and schools will also be served with water tankers.
• Most importantly, consumers should/must store water ahead of the shutdown to reduce the impact of the shutdown.
