Police Command in Chereponi District of the North East Region have arrested some 12 persons over alleged involvement in a violent protest in the community following the release of Sunday’s MMDCE’S announcement.

It would be recalled that some angry youth believed to be faithfuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vandalised the party’s properties in protest against President Akufo-Addo’s nominee, Zuweira Mada Nasheru as District Chief Executive for Chereponi.

With regards to this development, a team of officers led by the Regional commander, DCOP Moses Ali Kpenchi, on Tuesday September 21, 2021, proceeded to arrest the accused persons for causing destruction of private properties and assaulting some individuals in Chereponi vicinity on Sunday, September 19.

The suspects include; Kwabena Manteng, 43; Iddrisu Abdul-Rahaman, 42; Sumaila Ibrahim, 16; Kasim Abdul-Aziz, 28; and Kasim Latif, 65.

The rest are: Ibrahim Awuffor, 23. The others are Osman Yussif, 36; Mohammed Abdul-Latif, 29; Fuseini Bawah, 30; Kwame Mahamud, 31; Bashiru Ayabli, 29; and Arimiyaw, 22.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwasi Ofori said that the security service “shall arrest and prosecute anyone who breaks the law in protest of the publication of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) list”

The statement thereafter cautioned to punish all persons who will be found guilty of the act after fully conducting their investigations into the matter.
