The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has cautioned the public not to admit persons purporting to be field officers into their homes or provide them information on account of the 2021 census.
Management of the Service has declared all official 2021 Population and House Census (PHC) paraphernalia used for data collection as invalid for official use.
The said paraphernalia includes the blue census T-shirts, blue census reflective jackets, white census caps, and ID cards, all of which were used during the data collection period.
In a signed statement cited by Angelonline.com.gh, the service said that “members of the public are thus requested not to admit any persons with the above [paraphernalia including census T-shirts] into their residence or provide them information on account of the 2021 PHC”.
“Following the release of the 2021 PHC provisional results on 22nd September, 2021 Management wishes to remind the public and all stakeholders that the data collection for the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) has officially ended. As such Field officers are no longer visiting households and institutions to collect information on the residents”, the statement further said.
The Director of Census and Survey Organisation, Abena Osei-Akoto, who signed the statement also expressed appreciation to all residents of Ghana for their participation and cooperation in achieving the goal of the census.
The GSS pegged Ghana’s population at 30.8 million as reported by the data hub in its provisional results released on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.
The report indicated that the population has grown almost fivefold since the first post-independent census was conducted in 1960, but has declined compared with the 2010 census.
