The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), has blamed the widespread power outage that hit several parts of Ghana on disturbances in its power systems.

According to GRIDCo, the power generating units at both Aboadze and Bui tripped and caused the outages.

Most parts of the country on Monday, November 8, 2021 experienced massive power outage including Kasoa, Nyanyano, Dansoman, Teshie and the Ablekuma sections towards Bokorbokor.

Some areas within the Western, Middle and Northern regions were equally affected.

GRIDCo, in a statement issued on November 9, stated that “at 19:50GMT on Monday, November 8, 2021, the power system experienced a significant disturbance. All generating units at Aboadze Enclave and Bui tripped resulting in a power outage in sections of Accra, the Western, Middle and Northern parts of the country”

The statement noted that after restoring the generating units at Aboadzi and Bui at 4:38am on Tuesday, a second disturbance occurred in an attempt to restore the remaining Bulk Supply Points.

This disturbance led to another interruption of electricity supply to several areas of Accra, the Western, Middle, and Northern parts of the country.”

GRIDCo however, says the situation has been rectified.

“GRIDCo, in collaboration with its key stakeholders in the power supply chain, has restored power to all BSPs”

The Ghana Grid Company further assured stakeholders that it will “continue to provide a stable power system for dependable and efficient power supply for national and economic growth.”
