The Takoradi Harbour Circuit has has rescheduled the case management conference involving the 29-year-old woman, Josephine Panyin Mensah who has been accused of faking her kidnapping and pregnancy.

The case which was scheduled for Thursday, November 11, at the Harbour Circuit Court has been postponed to December 14, 2021.

Josephine Panyin Mensah, who’s currently on bail, has been charged with deceiving public officers contrary to section 251 (B) of the Criminal Offences Act and Publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic contrary to section 208 (1) of the Criminal Offences Law.

According to Philip Fiifi Buckman, the Lawyer for the accused, although they have gone through all the necessary documents and exhibits, prosecution had to allow the case management conference to take off on a new date following the unavailability of the trial judge who had a conference to attend.

“Thursday was for case management, as was stated. The prosecution has provided us with their documents, so the disclosures have been done”

“We were coming for the case management but unfortunately, the court could not sit because there is a conference. We have taken a date, 14th December. Surely, I believe by that time we should have the case management conference,” he explained.

Josephine Panyin Mensah, was reported to have gone missing with an alleged nine-month-old pregnancy and had been kidnapped during a dawn walk.

She resurfaced a week later at Axim in the Western Region without her alleged pregnancy or baby.

She had claimed that she delivered the same day she went missing and that the kidnappers had stolen her baby.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah subsequently claimed Josephine was not pregnant as reported, a claim subsequently corroborated by the Ghana Police Service.

Police conducted two separate medical tests on Josephine at different hospitals, with both reports proving that she was never pregnant.
