TVET education now free – Mark Sasu-Mensah

The National Coordinator for the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Mark Sasu-Mensah, has disclosed that Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Schools have been included in the Free Senior High School programme in the country.

According to him, 139 Technical and Vocational Schools have been added to the already 47 on the free Senior High School programme policy.

The move, he said, was in tune with the government’s plan to also make TVET free to help promote technical and vocational education in the country.

Speaking on Anopa Bofo morning show ahead of the Computerized School Selection Placement System for the 2021 BECE candidates, Mr. Sasu-Mensah said the government through the Ministry of Education embarked on the laudable step to make TVET free as part of the free SHS scheme.

He told Kofi Adoma Nwanwani that, the initiative became necessary after Educational Minister, Yaw Adutwum had argue that his aim of making ‘stem education’ lucrative under his administration, cannot be successful without Technical and Vocational schools.

Highlighting on the focus, the coordinator added that, the decision will also help expand the scope of TVET and make it more accessible for pupils to enrol into the schools.

This, he noted, candidates interested in TVET schools are to select six schools from category A, B, C, and appendix 3 where candidates are to make choices to enable their enrolment under the CSSPS.

He again explained that, beneficiaries of the free TVET begins with the total 571,894 candidates out of 18,003 schools who sat for this year’s Basic Examination Certificate Examination.

Further, Mr. Sasu Mensah serve a notice that, there is public education and sensitization program ongoing on the CSSPS in all the 16 regions hence urging parents who wants their wards to be enrolled in TVET schools take the opportunity during the selection process.

To conclude, he reiterated that government is determined to make TVET institutes one of the best in the country and more importantly one of the legacy policies in the country.
