The Ejura Traditional Council has condemned some Fulani herdsmen who are causing havoc to farmlands owned by residents in their township.

The traditional authorities note that these herdsmen are operating illegally on their lands.

The Council, under the leadership of Barima Osei Hwedie II, has therefore given all nomadic herdsmen in the area a two-week ultimatum to either provide legal documentation of their stay in the area or pack out and go to wherever they came from.

In a statement issued on February 17, authorities stated that “the attention of the Ejura Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous Fulani herdsmen operating in the area.”

“These Fulaani herdsmen according to reports from farmers in our jurisdiction have destroyed farm produce of hundreds of farmers in over 25 communities within the traditional area.”

They indicated that the herdsmen have been robbing and terrorizing farmers and residents with guns, which has been duly reported to security Agencies in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality for further investigation.

After preliminary investigations by the Ejura Land Management Committee, chaired by Oheneba Owusu Bekoe Maawerehene, pointed out that some herdsmen have invaded some communities in Ejura causing mayhem.

The traditional council on Thursday, February 17, 2022, also met with security heads in the municipality and was assured of measures to protect lives and properties.

The Council while assuring farmers to get the herdsmen out of their farms, also called on the Ashanti Region Coordinating Council and the regional security agencies to assist their compatriots in Ejura since Ejura is one of the biggest food baskets in the country.
