The Member of Parliament for Sene West, Kwame Twumasi Ampofo, has urged government to resource the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources to produce enough clean water for Ghanaians.

Sene West MP, Twumasi Ampofo

He explained that, currently, the state has mandated two agencies which is Ghana Water Company Limited and Community Water and Sanitation Agency to produce water for Ghanaians but these two agencies are unable to produce enough due to inadequate funds.

Mr. Twumasi Ampofo, in an interview with Angel News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Prince Joe Boadi, disclosed that it is a worrying situation to see many people struggling to get clean and safe water in and around cities and rural areas.

He concluded by calling the various state agencies such as Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry, Health Ministry, Mines and Energy Ministry among others to join forces and fight against all forms of illegal activities which are destroying natural water bodies, such as sand weaning and illegal mining (galamsey) to protect rivers in order to produce enough water for Ghanaians and end the rationing of water in the country.

This network recently reported that residents of Kofipare Community in the Ayensuano District in the Eastern Region, are complaining bitterly about their source of dinking which they claim is a major cause of sickness.

The community lacks access to pipe-borne water and have resorted to drinking from a polluted stream running through the town.

Similarly acute water shortage affected residents of Sekondi-Takoradi and some adjoining communities in the Western Region.
