Two policemen killed, four others arrested over bullion van robberies

Two suspected policemen believed to be involved in series of bullion van robberies have been shot dead on March 8, 2022, an official police statement has said.

The suspects, Constable Reindolph Gyimah Ansah and Corporal Stephan Kwaku Nyame were killed during exchange of fire with the police in Borteyman near Ashaiman in Accra.

Four other officers namely; Constable Affisu Yaro Ibrahim, Constable Richard Boadu, Constable Rabiu Jambedu, Constable Albert Ofosu and suspect, Razak Alhassan, a civilian have also been arrested.

They have since been interdicted, and all five will be arraigned before court on today, Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

“The police have carried out an intelligence-led field raid at a hideout of the gang connected with the investigation into the bullion van robberies.

“During the raid at Borteyman near Ashaiman there was an exchange of gunshot and two policemen, Constable Reindolph Gyimah Ansah and Cpl Stephan Kwaku Nyame who had been arrested in connection with the bullion van robberies were shot and were pronounced dead on arrival at the Police Hospital for treatment,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the police has says they are pursuing five other civilian suspects who have gone into hiding.

The statement is however appealing to the general public and health facilities within the Greater Accra-Tema region to report to the police if they find any persons with gunshots wounds.
