Kumasi Asante Kotoko produced a brilliant performance to thump Bibiani Gold Stars 5-0 in Kumasi on Sunday, to maintain their place at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Cameroonian, Mfegue Omgba put the home side in front in the 31st minute when he tapped the ball into the net after Gold Stars goalkeeper Ernest Kusi missed Imoro Ibrahim’s cross.
The Porcupine Warriors proved too strong for the visitors as Mfegue doubled the lead to complete a first-half brace for the reds, after being teed up by compatriot and strike partner Mbella Etouga. The goals increased his tally to six goals.
Back from recess, with a 2-0 advantage, Augustine Agyapong added to the tally as he scored his first goal for the home side with a long-range effort which deflected into the net in the 59th minute.
The League’s leading scorer Franck Mbella got his name on the score sheet – his 14th of the season from the penalty spot before Samuel Boateng netted the fifth to seal an emphatic victory for Kotoko.
The results propelled Kumasi Asante Kotoko to remain at the top of the table with an eight-point advantage second placed Dormaa Aduana Stars while Gold Stars are three places above the relegation zone.
At the Nana Agyeman Badu Park at Dormaa, Aduana Stars recorded yet another home win on Sunday – this time a 1-0 win against Champions Accra Hearts of Oak on Match Day 20 of the Ghana Premier League.
Sam Adams scored the decisive goal on the stroke of halftime as the ‘Ogya Boys’ outshine the ‘Rainbow Boys’ to move second place to leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The defeat also means Accra Hearts of Oak are win less at Dormaa in eight years.
