Three Ghanaians want Akufo-Addo impeached over Serwaa Broni saga
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Three Concerned Ghanaians have petitioned Parliament seeking for the impeachment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The concerned trio include Issifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, Elikem Kotoko, and Stephen Kwabena Attuh.

Their petition to the Speaker of the House was occasioned by some allegations leveled against the statesman by one Evelyn Aidoo, popularly known as ‘Serwaa Broni’.

Serwaa Broni claims the President had used national security operatives to stage an attack on her to retrieve evidence of a purported gadget containing ‘nude pictures’ following her threat to expose the statesman’s alleged sexual affairs with her.

Among other things, Serwaa Broni alleged that she had some intimate relationship with President Akufo-Addo which subsequently led to threats on her life including the use of one Mr Hopeson Adorye who was then the Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of the Airport and other national security operatives.

Ms. Evelyn also made allegations of a compensation package being arranged by the President through Mr. John Boadu, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and others including Hon. Kennedy Agyepong, one Colonel Mike Opoku, the Ofori Attas to be
handed to her.

However, the complainants believes if the claims are proven to be true, it would amount to a breach of the Oath of Office of the President.

Furthermore, it is tantamount to “human rights abuse, abuse of office, exposing the security of Ghana to external threat…as well as…dragging the name of the high office of President into disrepute, among others.”

They therefore noted that they draw their motivation for the petition from Article 41 (a), (b) and (f) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Citing the petition as well-grounded to invoke Article 69 (1) of the 1992 Constitution which warrants an inquiry into the matter, they are calling on Parliament to commence an impeachment process against the President if the allegations prove to be true.
