Cameroonian forward Frank Mbella Etouga was the hero for Kumasi Asante Kotoko as his second half strike secured victory for the Porcupine Warriors over the West African Football Academy at Sogakope.
The results means the league leaders have ended their two-game winless run.
A 64th minute strike from Mbella broke the game’s deadlock, after a dominant second half display by the away side.
The goal propelled the Cameroonian import to set a new record with his 18th goal of the season for the Kumasi-based club in the Ghana Premier League.
Eric Bekoe, a former Ghana international scored 17 goals in the Ghana Premier League for Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the 2007/08 season.
However, Frank Mbella’s 18th goal against WAFA on Saturday becomes the club’s new record as the season continues.
He now sets his eyes on the all-time record set by former Accra Hearts of Oak striker, Ishmael Addo, who scored 23 goals in a season.
