The Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Joseph Akuerteh Tettey, has said a meeting has been scheduled for Sunday May 8, 2022 in quest to amicably resolve land ownership issues in Santoe.

Residents of the town were left stranded after a home invasion on Wednesday morning by some armed men believed to be members of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) division of the Ghana Police Service.

The armed men ejected the occupants of some 40 houses built on a 30-acre piece of land and locked up the buildings leaving their properties inaccessible.

A man whose name was given as Mr. Okyere, is said to be the instructor in the said ejection.

According to the victims, the claimant is driving them out based on a court order he allegedly secured which has not been served on them by the same court.

“If they have been given a court order to vacate residents from their homes, they should be able to serve us a court order and determine the bundles they are supposed to lock up, but here lies the case they came without serving us any…” said one of the affected residents.

An assembly member of the area, Samuel Abbrey, told journalists that Mr. Okyere claimed the chief of Santeo sold the land to him. However, the chief denied same when he was queried.

He noted that efforts to secure a copy of the court order directing the vacation of the occupants from the land proved futile.

“The District police Commander called me to inform me about a meeting with the Director General of Operations at the National level. When we met him, he told us the issue was as a result of a court order. Up till now, the police have not been able to tell the judgement creditor to serve us with the order.”

According to assembly member, there have been attempts by other individuals to claim ownership of the same land but have been unsuccessful.

It is in this vein that the MP for the area has indicated that the local authorities have resolved to meet with the claimant and the victims of the ejection to ensure that peace prevails in the process.

“We have appealed to them to allow us to meet on Sunday, because according to the man [Mr. Okyere], they are not here to do demolishing.

“They have possession but some people have started coming to their offices to pick forms so that they take them through the processes. So we are asking them to pause the process so we can educate them for the execution to be peaceful.”
