The 2022 Vodaphone Ghana Music Artiste of the Year, Kidi has said he was shocked when he learnt that his song, ‘Touch it’, has penetrated the Indian market.

Responding to a question about the shocking place he has ever heard his song, he replied that “the first big shock was when the song [Touch it] entered India. I was like India! Wow!”

He explained that “when I saw their celebrities, their TV stars [enjoying the song], I was like okay, now we are in business. As an artiste, when you see these things it is crazy!”

While calling for more of such surprises, he indicated that artistes are ‘gingered’ to do more when a song goes viral or gains popularity in other countries.

Speaking in a Joy News interview, he revealed that after composing lines like “Shut up and bend over…let your bakka do the talking over”, he sat back and laughed.

“I sat back and laughed about a bit because I was like what am I singing about and even among my team… they were really surprised like eei from Odo nti me wu a, ennye hwee [to] now shut up and bend over”, he disclosed.

Despite their surprise, Kidi however responded that as an artiste we are just in the studio to create art and art in its purest form would be appreciated.

The award-winning artiste also disclosed that despite the widespread enjoyment of the song, some members of the public have criticized the lyrics in the song, with some feminists threatening him.

He said that critics labelled the song ‘derogatory and disrespectful’ while urging people to stop listening to it.
