Details of Adwoa Safo’s summon on absentism to be published on July 6

The Privileges Committee Chairman of Parliament, Joseph Osei-OWusu has directed that the summons to the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo to appear before the committee over absenteeism should be published in all relevant media.

A statement issued and signed by the Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Kate Addo indicated that all attempts to reach the lawmaker failed.

The publication is expected to be done on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at noon at the Parliament House, New Administration Block, Committee Room 1, 2, and 3, pursuant to Article 103 (6) of the Constitution and Order 205 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, during proceedings of the house on Tuesday, April 5, referred three NPP MPs to the committee for missing out on more than 15 sittings.

It follows after a former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak petitioned Parliament over the continuous absence of three lawmakers namely Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, and Henry Quartey, MP for Ayawaso Central, and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

According to the statement this comes “after all, attempts to reach” the MP by the Committee failed.

“The summons form part of the committee’s work, referred to it by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, pursuant to Article 97(1)(c) of the Constitution, and Orders 15 and 16 (1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, for consideration and report to the House, on the absence of the member from Parliament for more than fifteen Sittings, without permission in writing to the Speaker, during the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eight Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana,”

“The committee has employed all available means both official and unofficial to serve the Member of Parliament with an invitation letter, including sending the invitation letter to her office and pigeonhole in Parliament, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, where the superintended as the Sector Minister” the statement explained.
