Officials from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have launched investigations into circumstances leading to the consumption of some expired energy drinks in the Assin South District.
This follows a report filed by Angelonline.com.gh last Friday, June 10, 2022, about the improper disposal of the expired drinks which some residents scrambled for.
Assin Kassim, Aworoso, and Aduanom communities in the Assin South District woke up to see quantities of sports energy drinks disposed of along Assin Kasim road.
Being excited by the development, the residents collected the products for sale whilst others took them for personal consumption without checking the expiry date.
The products in question were labelled to expire by March 10, 2022.
Since the collection of the expired products, there have been reactions including vomiting reported by some individuals following the consumption drinks, according to the Assembly member for the area, Mr Benjamin Amoaning.
The acting Central Regional Director of the FDA, Francisca Obeng, told this website that upon receipt of the information, her outfit immediately engaged with various leaders, traders and children especially pupils in the communities to immediately prevent sale of the products and usage.
“The investigation is still ongoing. We will work till we lay hands on those who disposed of the products in the community” Madam Francisca Obeng added.
She has however cautioned the residents against the consumption of expired products should such incident occur again and also avoid buying discolored or tampered products.
She also called on Ghanaians to support the FDA with information to combat illicit acts as they are always committed to prioritizing public health and safety.
