Embattled Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM has returned to transmitting live after the apology of its management was accepted by the Kumasi Traditional Council.
This follows a crunch meeting held between a delegation of the media house and the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region.
Oyerapa FM halted its operations in the Kumasi metropolis last Friday, August 26, 2022, following directives from the Council through its Acting President, Baffuor Amankwatia, who is the Bantamahene.
They were much concerned about the platform given to the founder and leader of the United Progressive Party, Kwasi Addai known as Odike to accuse the chiefs in the Ashanti Region of illegal mining without any caution.
But after several consultations amidst apology on the part of Oyerepa FM, the Council’s Acting President, Baffuor Amankwatia, who is the Bantamahene, said the station has been pardoned because its management had shown remorse.
The station’s delegation to Manhyia was led by the Asokore Mamponghene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah including former chairman of the National Peace Council Rt Rev Emmanuel Asante among other respected dignitaries.
Rt Rev Emmanuel Asante used the medium and advised all media houses in the country to take a cue from the situation and admonished them to consider every context.
He warned that “Don’t just allow people to come in and say whatever they want to say” and urged the host of programmes to “ensure that people do not implicate you in terms of what they say in your station.”
He also highlighted the need for the media to be “circumspect” in the line of duty and the content it churns out to their listeners.
