A Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) supervisor has abandoned his post and is currently on the run after a candidate reportedly soiled himself at one of the centres in the Ashanti Region.
The said supervisor refused to allow the candidate go to the washroom despite being granted the permission to do so by the invigilator.
The candidate, a student of Fufou D/A Junior High School, who was suffering from a stomach upset defecated on himself in the exam room 20 minutes after the supervisor declined his permission.
The incident happened on Monday at Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
Confirming the incident on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofo Morning Show, the Assembly Member for the area, Eric Opoku Fofie Fufuo said “he was writing the first paper, Social Studies and then he had a stomach upset for which reason he sought permission.
“The invigilator granted him permission but on his way out, the supervisor asked him to return. He said he won’t permit the student to leave [the exam room]…after twenty minutes he couldn’t hold it anymore and defecated on himself…some of the teachers now rushed to the supervisor and he was sent to the washroom to clean up…”
Mr. Opoku added that “when we confronted the supervisor, he brought us a document that no student is allowed to exit the exams room within 30 minutes when the exams commences…”
He gave the supervisor’s name as Mr. Ayaakwa adding that he has ran away and doesn’t show up at the exams centre anymore.
The candidate was done with Section A of the paper remaining the Section B.
The boy, feeling embarrassed, was resisting to write the second paper, Mathematics, the following day until he was counselled and encouraged to do so by the assembly member and some counselors from the District Directorate.
According to Mr. Opoku, the victim’s father is late so an uncle joined him and some committee members to the Education Directorate to meet the Education Director and the Headmaster of the school.
After reporting the matter, “it was concluded that action would be taken at the end of the examinations in order not to divert attention away from the exams”, the Assembly Member disclosed.
The Assembly member further indicated that they shall take the matter to the Regional Minister or the Ministry of Education if they are not satisfied with the sanctions given the said supervisor.
