The Energy Commission has banned the importation of some 19 electric appliances and renewable energy products.
In its statement to the effect of the ban, the Commission said the move was to help stop the country from becoming the depot for new but substandard and used products.
It furthered that the ban will help to “save the economy by reducing the electricity demand which necessitates the additional generation capacity with its associated fuel coast.”
The Energy Commission also indicated the need to protect the health of the citizenry from the air pollution caused by increased power generation.
While the ban is in force, Commission also urged importers and manufacturers of the products to operate within the laws regarding the banned products.
The products include air conditioners, comfort fan, fridges, distribution transformer, electric kettle, electric motor among others.
