VC of Maritime University calls for robust infrastructure to support learning

Acting Vice Chancellor of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jnr. has indicated the need for the university to make use of robust infrastructure with cyber labs to support student learning for better outcomes.

This he explained is proven by research to provide quality education, facilitate and improve better learning outcomes for a sustained economic growth.

Dr. Brooks made this remark during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Regional Maritime University and McJones Energy, a renewable energy project development consulting company at Teshie Nungua in Accra today.Maritime University and support

“To do business with the Regional Maritime University (RMU) means you are dealing with five sovereign states in the West and Central Africa Region made up of Ghana, Camaroon, the Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone” Dr. Brooks explained.

In his view, a modern cyber lab for practical hands-on learning of students is appropriate for the institution to help raise the standard and quality of students from the university to enhance output and build a robust brand for both parties.

The Director and CEO of McJones Energy, Mr. Jones Elias Ntorinkansah expressed the desire to forster very strong partnerships and business relations with RMU in the long term by ensuring that it has internal capabilities to help run test work lab activities on renewable energy at RMU for the benefit of student internships and other practical hands-on experience for students.

According to Mr. Ntorinkasah, their current project on battery capacity which involves the building of battery banks in Ghana as part of their industry project where an industrial park will be created to harbor different factories.

“Unlike the traditional model of relying just on ECG, we would want a lot of the power to come from a dedicated solar strip battery facility with suppliers from Turkey, China and many other partners across the world” he further explained.

Dr. Isaac Owusu Nyarko, Head of electrical and electronic department of the Regional Maritime University lauded the decision by McJones Energy to partner with Regional Maritime University and expressed their commitment to provide the man power and knowledge to support the collaboration.
