The spokesperson for Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Lawyer Amoh Darteh, has refuted claims that the outburst by Mr Kennedy Agyapong makes him a pushover in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential election.

There have been commentaries among the general public that Mr. Agyapong will lose his bid to lead the NPP come November 4, 2024, when the party holds its presidential election to elect a flagbearer to lead them in 2024.

It came on the back of events of Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the special delegates’ conference to select five of the ten candidates vying to become the party’s presidential candidate, where Mr Agyapong threatened President Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

It was after Kennedy Agyapong had claimed his agent was attacked and chased out of the voting centre into a room.

“I will give you a showdown in this country, I swear to God. Vice President, I will give you a showdown for chasing my agent away. I swear to God. You will hear what will happen here. I swear to God, I will challenge President Akufo-Addo big time,” Kennedy said.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show, lawyer Amoh Darteh, the spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, pointed out that the development will not affect their presidential ambitions in any way.

He noted that the Assin Central Member of Parliament only exhibited the toughness in him, adding that the upcoming primaries will be based on the relevance of one’s campaign message.

“My brother, everyone has his or her view in Ghana and we know strongly that it will not go against us because we have 60 days to campaign.

“It is about your message, it is about your vision, it is about what you can do for the country, it is about the hope you have given to the youth and what the youth want,” he told Okatakyir Afrifa Mensah.

He added, “So, we [the Kennedy Agyapong team] have put everything behind us and started focusing keenly on our campaign because we know that regardless of what happened, it will never go against us.”

Lawyer Amoh Darteh believes the actions of the presidential hopeful were an attestation of the leadership qualities he possesses and nothing contrary.

“As a good leader, you should have a little of craziness, a little madness, a little of toughness in you so that in times of some circumstances you can easily step up and roar to back off individuals from us.”
