Retired Commissioner of Police (CoP), George Alex Mensah is optimistic of winning the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region which he declared his intetion of contesting recently.
The recently retired officer believes his behind the scenes contributions to the course of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while still serving as a police officer would inure to his benefit in party’s impending primaries.
In an interview on Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, the outspoken officer who never hid his flirtations with the NPP whiles serving as an officer of the law said he is the right person to represent the NPP after Joseph Osei-Owusu (Joe Wise).
He further said that he meets the NPP’s constitutional demand of one being actively involved in politics for not less than two years before being allowed to contest as Parliamentary Candidate.
“Yes, I was actively involved and that also have a broader interpretation. It can mean doing undergrounds works for the party as well,” he told Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.
He further downplayed the assertion that his involvement in the ongoing investigations of a leaked tape plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akufo Dampare will affect his quest to become an MP.
