A senior pathologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Paul Poku Sampene Ossei has urged Ghanaians to commence taking critical look at their lifestyle as the nation has started recording an astronomical increase in kidney disease.
Prof. Sampene, speaking on Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, 28th September, 2023 opined that the surge in kidney disease cases should be a cause of concern for everyone.
“From our observation, there has been a rapid increase in cases pertaining to the kidney,” he said.
He pointed out that while a considerable number of the cases are hereditary, others can also be attributed to lifestyle activities.
“Smoking, taking in alcohol and pollution of the environment as result of human activities exposes the body to kidney related issues. Hereditary (genes) on the other hand can also contribute to a rapid increase in the health of children,” he revealed.
He urged the public to take strong interest in issues affecting their health and the protection of the kidney should be paramount.
