Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, has been left out of the side’s 23-man squad invited for friendly matches against the Unites States of America and Mexico.

Ayew was part of the Black Stars’s last game against Central African Republic in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in September.

Also missing in the squad are Abdul Baba Rahman, Baba Iddrisu, Fatawu Issahaku and Kamaldeen Sulemana despite all of them being on top of their games at their respective clubs.

However, Brighton and Hove Albion defender, Tariq Lamptey has made a return to the squad having been on the sideline for close to six-months.

Arsenal’s midfield maestro and deputy captain of the Black Stars, Thomas Teye Party, is back to the team after missing the qualifier against Central African Republic due to injury.

Coach Chris Hughton is expected to use the two friendlies as part of the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

Ghana will face Mexico at the Bank of America stadium – Charlotte on Saturday, October 14 before taking on the United States of America on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Nashville Tennessee.
