Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, says President Nana Akufo-Addo takes a major blame for for the recent happenings within the party.
Speaking the Angel Morning Show on on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Ohene Ntow said Akufo-Addo created divisions in the NPP way before he became President, a situation which has resulted in the crisis the party is facing now.
The NPP leadership on Monday, forfeited membership of three top guns who joined the campaign team of Mr Alan Kyerematen, who broke ranks from the governing party to form the Movement for Change to contest the 2024 Presidential elections as an independent candidate.
Reacting to the decision, Ohene Ntow said he had long been sidelined in the party and sees it as nothing new.
According to him, although the NPP looked united on the outside, it is deeply divided on the inside as there exist ‘the Kufuor side’ and the ‘Akufo-Addo side’.
“I once told Akufo-Addo that he is the candidate and aspiring to be the president, therefore, people looked up to him when it comes to certain matters… ,” the former Chief Executive of the party recalls telling Nana Akufo-Addo while he was speaking to host of the show, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.
He went on to add that, he was highly expecting the president to prove to the people that he is the leader who detests division and that he is bent on uniting the party members.
“If he had listened to the little advise some of us offered him and prioritised the unity of the party, then maybe the party wouldn’t have gotten to the stage it is now,” he added.
To him, the John Agyekum Kufuor government invested more in the unity of the party than the Akufo-Addo regime.
