Seventeen persons seeking to be Parliamentary candidates for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections has been disqualified by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

The 17 were part of about 376 members of the persons who applied to contest to be parliamentary candidates for the NPP in the 2024 elections.

“NEC disqualified 17 aspirants across the country…the reasons were explained to them. They were part of the 376 that applied that they seek to contest to lead the NPP…,” he said on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday.

Issues that called for the disqualification of the aspirants, he said, include the fact that some of them were either not party members or registered voters in Ghana.

He further mentioned that the NPP could not deal with cases that are in court. “322 persons qualified with three people agreeing to step down,” he added.

Interestingly, 33 of the aspirants who are sitting MPs have been granted the permission to contest the 2024 elections unopposed.

The NPP has set 27th January, 2024 as the day for the election of Parliamentary Candidates in constituencies with sitting MPs.
