Former Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi has described as ‘cheap talk’ a promise by the 2024 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama to overhaul Ghana football when elected President.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, Yaw Adomako Baafi said the Mahama’s track record as a leader is nothing to write home about and therefore questioned his motive for making such lofty promise.

In a recent “Building The Ghana We Want Tour” in the Northern Region, John Dramani Mahama said his next administration will build a new national team comprising only of homegrown players who have excelled within the Ghanaian football structure.

“We will build the new Black Stars based on homegrown players. Domestic players who have trained together for a long time and work as a team, and then we will bring the foreign ones to come and blend with them,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Flagbearer said.

Mahama also emphasized the importance of building the core team around some local base players who have played together extensively, suggesting a need to overhaul Ghanaian football in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

His promise follows the Black Stars recent poor performances in all competitions with the latest being a group stage exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

However, Mr. Adomako Baafi lashed out at the NDC leader indicating that he should be the last person to be playing politics with the Black Stars’ situation.

“Look at who is making these promises, Mahama? If it had been Dr. Bawumia making such promises, then fine but not Mr. Mahama because he has not been able to fulfill any of his promises as a leader.

Throughout his political career – from being an Assemblyman to occupying the presidencial seat, what did he achieve?” he asked host Okatakyei Afrifa-Mensah.
