Mahama’s ’24-hour economy’ slogan wrongly timed – Ben Ephson

The Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, suggests that John Mahama’s 24-hour economy slogan was introduced prematurely ahead of the 2024 elections.

The pollster believes that the early unveiling of such a policy might lead to extensive public debate, potentially weakening the policy’s impact before the elections.

He made these assertions on Angel Morning Show broadcast on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM on Monday, February 26, 2024.

This was when the host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, asked about his thoughts on ongoing campaign strategies by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) John Mahama.

The astute journalist replied, asserting that Mahama’s 24-hour economy is a commendable policy, albeit strategically timed poorly.

“It is a good idea; it is a good political strategic policy, but it was not delivered at the right time.”

In subsequent remarks, he elaborated that had the policy been issued five or six weeks prior to the elections, there would have been less opportunity for public discussion and scrutiny.

Nevertheless, given that the policy was unveiled approximately four months ago, additional criticism may undermine its strength and feasibility.

“So the 24-hour economy, the more it is examined, the more it becomes weak. If he had released it five or six weeks to voting, people wouldn’t have enough time to critically examine it to see the weakness,” he added.
