Ghanaian-Romanian musician, Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, known by his stage name Wanlov the Kubolor, has emphatically stated that he is not a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ+) community as perceived by many.
According to the musician born to a Ghanaian father and a Romanian mother, he has no affection for his fellow men let alone being a gay.
Wanlov the Kubolor disclosed this to Ohemaa Woyeje on the Y’adwuma Nie programme on Angel 102,9 FM, Tuesday, February 27, 2024, when sharing his perspective on education, LGBTQ+ rights, and his personal life.
“I am not a gay, but sometimes I make just one finger to pass through it, and I don’t feel having sex with my own gender because I’m not attracted to guys,” he said.
Speaking further on LGBTQ+ rights, the musician who doubles as a film director, challenged the notion that homosexuality was introduced by white people.
“It’s not true that the LGBTQ came from the white people, there are so many instances in our history that people we call LGBTQ existed. What the white people brought was the laws that these acts must be put to an end because, they brought their Christian religion and we were living it in a different way so I don’t support it being a western thing,” he said.
He pointed out that LGBTQ+ individuals have existed throughout history, and it was the laws imposed by Western cultures that sought to suppress these identities.
Kubolor clarified that although he has had encounters with same-sex individuals but does not feel sexually attracted to men.
