The Attorney General (AG) has advised the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to stop the tit-for-tat behavior surrounding the interlocutory injunction filed at the Supreme Court restricting Parliament from approving the new ministers and deputy ministers.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the South Dayi Member of Parliament filed an injunction making it impossible for Parliament to approve the new ministers and deputy ministers.

Following this, the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, indicated that the action of the Lawmaker does not give the House the green light to continue its vetting proceeding and approval for the appointed ministers.

But according to the Attorney General who doubles as the Minister of Justice, the Speaker of Parliament was misled about the whole matter hence his utterances.

He said “For that process to be truncated on account of a basis which is false; that there has been a filing of a motion is very unfortunate…, and I think the Speaker was misled. I think that Parliament ought to find a way of correcting it.

“I think it is just unnecessary politicking and I think that the unjustified tit-for-tat ought to stop. That is not the way to build democracy or a country and that is not actually the way to also construe our Constitution,” Mr. Odame said on the Asaase Radio.

According to him “If we seek to construe our Constitution, it must be done in good faith” explaining that “You do not construe it in a way to suit your purposes and say that you are trying to counter the action by the president in respect of a wholly unrelated process.”
